The song is called 'Your Song', originally written and produced years ago (1970) by Elton John.
This is one of Ellie Goulding's latest song she has released into the charts. Personally I think that this video is a video which in some ways follow the rules whilst on the other hand, Ellie Goulding challenges the conventions of our genre in this specific music video just by doing the most simple things. Alot of the reasons why this is an excellent song/video for our genre is by the mise en scene used.
Here is another screenshot of the song 'Your Song'. As you can see from the picture this is a location shot of the woods. As our group are going to base our music video in the woods, we thought this fit well within our genre. The woods adds a sense of mystery and suspense, it keeps the audiences interested right from the very start and this is what we want our music video to do.
From the picture above it is clear to see once again this video at that certain time is in a location which Ellie Goulding had to go to, to make this shot happen. This video breaks the conventions of a music video as it has no studio shots whatsoever. Every single shot in this video has been shot on location. Not only will this of been tough for the producers and directors, but a lot of money for Ellie Goulding etc. Even though it would of been a lot of money, personally we think that this video breaks the conventions of a music video very well, as this video is brilliant. All the shots are perfect, the lip syncing is to perfection and all the close ups, medium shots etc have been put together and work amazingly.
Andrew Goodman has a theory that "there is a relationship between the lyrics and the visuals (with the visuals either illustrating, amplifying or contradicting the lyrics)" AND "there is a relationship between the music and the visuals." In this song by Ellie Goulding, she challenges these theories as her video to the lyrics do not at all match. The video is based around her, smiling, running through places, having a good time whilst the lyrics are about her giving this song to someone, who maybe she loves, as she dedicates the lyrics to someone. This is another way how this video challenges the normal/average conventions of a music video and genre.

Audience's like genres because the can relate to the artists, dress like them and understand what they're talking about through their lyrics. Also audiences like genres as they like similarity. If everything is the same, for example each song by the same artist sounds the same or looks the same in the videos, audiences tend to like this, as they do not like change. Ellie Goulding tends to keep her videos and sounds similar as she does not want to change her genre or 'look' she is. Also in addition to this, media producers like genre because the genres have big audiences, which creates a lot of money for them - as they have a formula to follow. Ellie Goulding has a massive audience as her genre has become huge over the past years,
