Research: Music Video Genre - Texts That Break The Rules

There are many music videos that break the rules, who try to stand out for the wrong or right reasons. This is because it will make the artist seem more unique, and also get them in some way more famous a they will get more publicity than other artists who stick to the normal conventions.
Here are two artists who do this in their video:
Bruno Mars - The Lazy Song and Bat For Lashes - What's a Girl To Do
ABOVE: BAT FOR LASHES
BELOW: BRUNO MARS

These two specific music videos have things in common:
  1. Both are in long shot throughout the whole of the music video. No change.
  2. Both have backing dancers.
  3. The backing dancers have their face covered in masks.
  4. Have choreographed performances throughout.
On the other hand, things that are different:
  1. Bat For Lashes is set at night, outside on a location shot
  2. Bruno Mars' video has been recorded in a studio.
With all of these things in the video, they break the rules of music videos. As both of videos, as stated above have only on contiuous shot being recorded this is one major reason how this genre of music breaks the rules. (Bruno Mars: hip hop, RnB, pop and soul. Whilst Bat For Lashes has been released as being an indie pop/alternative genre band, which fits in with Florence and The Machine, who is our artist for our music video.)
