Institution: Branding.

Brands and branding

What is a brand?
A brand is different from a product, for example instant coffee is a product but Kenco and Nescafe are the different brands.
The need for brands came from the age of mass production, as costumers had so much choice each different product needed a different 'personality' so that the costumers would buy there product and not another one.

So why do brands work?
Brands work because they offer us some kind of guarantee, a set of values that we associate with the brand image. They also work because they turn a product into something special and something that is different to the rest and stand out.
''Advertising today is not merely about selling products; its about selling a brand, a dream, a message.'' - Katharine Viner.

Why is branding important to the music industry?
It's important to the industry because the audiences of a certain band or artist can relate to them by this. It is essential that the artist creates a brand image so that all different products relate to each other.
There is three different products that an artist should use for there brand image, these are;
- Constant font and colour for there logo which has the right connotation for there artist.
- A constant brand image - an image that they want people to associate with there artist.
- A constant theme or campaign that they can use throughout there products.
